The Reason Why You Ought to Grow Your Own Personal Herbs

By Arron Adams

It may seem like a lot of work to cultivate your own fruits and vegetables. Enjoying an herb garden might be a good alternative. The product perhaps may not look that significant, but if you like cooking with herbs, you will have plenty of fresh herbs anytime you need them. Thankfully, there are many herbs that you can decide to have in your garden. You can get started by choosing herbs that you normally use to cook with.

It is wonderful to know that you are going to always have fresh herbs and you can save money by not having to buy them at the store. At the start, you ought to start with the basics like dill, mint, sage, chives, rosemary or parsley. Your garden soil needs to have good water drainage, in the area you want to put your herb garden, because when the soil becomes saturated, and stays that way, your plants won't grow up to be very healthy. If it seems as if the water is not draining, you can dig about a foot deep into the soil and add a layer of crushed rocks then cover it up with soil. The water will drain properly and your plants will start to grow well.

You might be inclined to shop for plants from the store that are rather pricey, when you are ready to start planting, but you shouldn't do that. You may save money by simply implementing the seed packets, since they grow so well from seeds. Herbs like mint grow extremely fast so you could have a garden covered in these herbs in a matter of days. For these types of herbs, I suggest you grow them in pots instead of in the regular garden. Since you toiled hard to cultivate your herbs, you have to be careful when you harvest them. It is critical that the plants turn up robust and healthy before you start removing any of the leaves.

You might want to wait a couple of months so that your plant can become strong enough for you to start using the leaves. Whenever you manage this, your plant will continue producing healthily for years. After they are robust enough, it's possible to use the herbs for cooking. You need to dry them out first, which may be done easily by placing them on a cookie sheet, and baking them for 2 to 4 hours at 170 degrees Fahrenheit. Once you have dried them, you will be all set to use them in your cooking.

You should consider doing an herb garden, especially if you get pleasure from gardening and like herbs. You will experience a bit of experimentation when you start your herb garden. However upon getting your garden thriving, you can easily harvest them and utilize them for your recipes.
